GREEK COFFEE, THE FLAVOURS AND SCENTS OF THE TRADITION

Greek coffee is undeniably one of the most popular drinks, every season has its own: hot in the winter months or cold in the summer. What characterizes the Greek people and their relationship with this drink is the rite that accompanies it: Greek coffee must be drunk calmly and without haste.

There are several types of coffee consumed in Greece: the famous Greek frappé is certainly one of the most popular. Skietos is sugar-free, metrios is slightly sweet, glikos is very sweet ... it all depends on what you want it.

The traditional Greek coffee, the one aged people offer when you go to their place, is simply prepared by boiling the powder with water in a pot, then when the mix is ready pour it into a cup and wait for the coffee powder to deposit on the cup’s bottom before tasting it.

GREEK COFFEE, THE RITUAL PREPARATION

Everything related to Greek coffee is an important ritual. When welcoming friends and relatives, preparing a good Greek coffee is also a way to entertain them. And it really easy to prepare, all you need is coffee and sugar, and the right coffee pot...just like at the coffee shops.

Place a small cup of water on the stove. Measure the water, the exact amount of water for the guests is measured in cup of coffee. Pour the finely ground coffee powder.

Add if necessary the desired amount of sugar (for a medium sweet metrio add a teaspoon of sugar), and wait until it boils. As soon as it begins to boil, make two teaspoonfuls of the pot and pour the mixture into the cups.

Greek coffee is ready, but in order to begin tasting it you have to wait patiently for some time to settle on the bottom of the cup. The same settlement of the Greek coffee cup that the grandmothers are able to read to predict the future of their beloved ones.

All that is Greek coffee in Greece is a ritual, with a touch of magic: read the coffee grounds and know your future!

When it comes to Greek coffee, a brand is undoubtedly the most famous and well-known, synonymous with quality. Loumidis coffee, that of the parrot, is the best known Greek coffee brand in the world.

The story begins in 1918 when the first café with the name Loumidis opens in Piraeus, the port of Athens. The history of this brand has been traveling through time and space for over 100 years.

From the port of Piraeus it quickly became the coffee of all Greeks. Over the years, the Loumidis brand has also distinguished itself for some of the most captivating and iconic advertisements, becoming in effect synonymous with quality Greek coffee.
